making mouldings
I have an exhibition coming up at the Stan Stevens Studio, Deerubbin Centre, Windsor on the 12th & 13th of July, and have been doing some framing for it.
I have had a stockpile of framing material for a while, but had run out of slip moulding inserts, and when I enquired at the moulding suppliers, found that the quoted price per metre was out of way my reach!
So I approached a local builder about making some. I bought some 2x1 pine from the local building supplies, and on a Saturday a few weeks ago we ran it through his machines and came out with a very satisfactory product!
I intended to use it just as a slip, but have found that it is also looks good as a finished frame in it's own right!
some pictures of the moulding ... and how it looks finished.
We made 100 metres of this moulding, and Ian Muir the builder, has said if anyone is interested in more of a similar product, it would be worth his while to run a larger batch through(perhaps 1000 metres ) for a very reasonable rate
